What's the password?

Each morning your child will be asked, "What's the password?", a fun and exciting way to learn our sight words and gain entrance to our classroom each week!  

            Here is a break down of how the "password" works:

Day 1:  "What's the password?", the teacher asks.  The student reads password as they run                     their finger under the word from left to right. 

              Many of you are probably asking, "What happens when they do no know the 

              password?" ...well, I tell them!  It takes practice and being successful is our

              goal!!

Day 2-4:  In addition to reading, the students are asked to "build" the password

                 with magnetic letters!  The skill becomes more than reading the word, but noticing

                 letter characteristics, such as:  letters with "tails" that hang "in the water" ( y, g, j),

                 "tall" letters (h, l, k, b), and letters that "sit on the line" (o, a, s, u).  They also learn

                 how to begin "building" from left to right, like we read.  "Checking" the password

                 to make sure the letters are in the correct order is a must also!

Day 4-5:   If the students are showing success with our password, I may throw in a distractor

                  (a letter that doesn't belong) to see if they notice!  It's a great day when they shout, 

                 "Mrs. O'Neal, this letter doesn't belong in our password!!!"

  So, "What's the password?", ask your child each day and help nail down our sight words!
